It sounds like British Airways executives have been at the in-flight drinks trolley after reading their new baggage policy for the airline. Starting next Tuesday 13 February, they’re going to charge extra if passengers check in more than one bag irrespective of whether the two bags weigh less than the baggage allowance.
They’ve also gone nuts with the pricing of these charges, £240 for an extra bag on a long haul flight, £120 for one on a short international flight and £60 on domestic flights. They’re qouted as saying ‘our vision for London Heathrow Terminal 5 is to create the best possible airport experience before you fly, with this in mind, we have announced a new simpler checked and excess baggage policy.’
Yes that’s everybody’s idea of the best possible airport experience, turning up at check-in and being told to pay an extra £240. They might make a small term gain from unknowing travellers, but long term all I see it doing is losing them customers, it won’t make me fly BA because I can only take one bag but it will make me choose someone else if I want to take two.
