British Airways trying to sort its problems

ba.jpgIts not a great week for British Airways or some of their customers, they still have tons of bags left at Heathrow from the Christmas chaos and the cabin crew strike is still on the cards.

The baggage not returned to its owners is unmarked and was left behind due to disruption by equipment failure and then fog in December. Amazingly BA has a 45 day trace period where they try and reunite the bags with the right passenger, if they can’t after that period they auction off the bag. I know people will be compensated but it still seems a bit harsh to flog someone’s personal belongings.

The walkout by 14,000 cabin crew has been delayed for 24 hours while the union’s negotiators meet the airline but is still on for 30 and 31 January. The cabin crew are complaining about a crack down on the sick leave they were taking, which was running at an average of 22 days each per year. I know airplane cabins are confined spaces and passengers are bringing all kinds of germs into them but 22 days seems a little excessive.

If the strikes do happen they’ll be followed three day ones starting 5 and 12 February.
