The headline on tonights London Evening Standard was £7 flights to America on Ryanair. This follows yesterday’s report on budget airline Zoom starting to fly from Gatwick to JFK in June for £129 one way.
Ryanair’s owner Michael O’Leary said his airline, which is one of the big players in the discount flight market in Europe, wants to fly to six east coast US airports within the next couple of years and the cheapest tickets would be $12.
According to the Daily Mail Zoom Ailrines will be almost 50% cheaper than the main carriers on the London to JFK route. Delta fly’s Gatwick-JFK economy return for £464 in July, BA does Heathrow-JFK for £472 and Virgin Heathrow-JFK £470. Zoom say they’ll be cahrging £258 for the same trip.
Got to be good news for passengers and for the cities at both ends of these routes, its bound to attract more visitors.
