Search for cheap airfare to Manchester Airport and book a flight to Manchester
Manchester Airport (code: MAN) is by far the largest airport in the United Kingdom that isn’t located in London itself. It’s the fourth largest airport including the five London airports, and it’s usually fairly easy to get cheap airfare into Manchester Airport from within Europe, although it can be more of a challenge from further away.
You can fly directly into Manchester Airport from over 200 cities, although many of those are only on charter flights. All major European airlines and several major airlines from other regions fly into Manchester, but generally the further away you are starting from the more likely that a cheaper fare will be available into London, or that the cheapest fare that lands at Manchester Airport actually has you change planes in London anyway.
Of course, if you are going somewhere in the UK north of London, it may well be worth flying into Manchester Airport even for a higher price. The cost and hassle of getting out of London can be considerable, but it’s still worth checking the code LON for all London airports at once, since you can sometimes save a significant amount of money due to the increased competition there, especially from the low-cost airlines.
Flights from within Europe
You can get a flight into Manchester Airport from virtually every large city in Europe and from within the UK itself. Since several of the low-cost airlines fly into Manchester it’s worth researching exactly which airport the flight starts from. More than a few travelers have been surprised by realizing shortly before their flight that they need to get to a distant airport when they thought they were booking from the major one in the area.
Flights from North America
Most of the major US airlines fly into Manchester Airport, as do most of the larger UK airlines as well. But if you are coming from somewhere other than New York City or Atlanta you might have to change planes there anyway. The alternative is to book a flight into London itself and then take a commuter flight to Manchester. If the fare you are being quoted seems high it’s worth exploring the different options.
Flights from Africa
Several of the major African airlines fly directly into Manchester Airport, so you can usually avoid a stop in London, although it might be cheaper booking a more complicated itinerary through London anyway.
Flights from Asia
There are limited flights directly from Asia to Manchester Airport, but you can certainly get there without having to stop in London if that’s your goal. You’ll usually have to change planes somewhere in the Middle East, and some of the Middle East-based airlines have the best fares anyway.
