Heathrow Airport transportation
Heathrow is Britain’s biggest and the world’s busiest international airport, and is located about 14 miles to the west of central London in the Borough of Hillingdon. Heathrow is still expanding with a new Terminal 5 opening in March 2008 and a third runway and possible sixth terminal under discussion.
There are a number of ways for visitors using Heathrow to get to and from the airport, here’s a look at the options should you be going through there.

London travel disruption
It took years of political wrangling and £4.3 billion to build but when Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 5 open for business on Thursday it was supposed to be the ultimate passenger experience for British Airways customers. Smooth, efficient, comfortable, with none of the hassles, delays and lost baggage that have plagued BA this last few years.
Unfortunately the opening two days couldn’t have gone worse and long haul flights have not even started using T5 yet. One in five flights were cancelled today, with one in seven predicted to be cancelled tomorrow, over 100 in the first 48 hours over the new terminal being open.

Heathrow Terminal 5
London’s main airport, Heathrow, gets a brand new terminal at the end of this month when Terminal 5 finally opens. Heathrow has a reputation as being very overcrowded with terminals that are patched up, not user friendly and definitely not designed for the passenger numbers they take.
Terminal 5 will handle all British Airways flights that currently

Heathrow Airport Expansion
The government has today outlined its proposals for the expansion of Heathrow Airport in Werst London. Currently the world’s busiest international airport wth a takeoff and landing about every 45 seconds at peak times, Heathrow has a new fifth terminal opening in 2008 but at the moment only has two runways to handle all these London flights.
The government options are for a new third runway to the north of Heathrow and a sixth terminal which would allow 702,000 takeoffs and landings a year compared to the current 480,000, with 120 million passengers a year by 2020 up from this year’s 67 million.

British Airways lost baggage auction
Good and bad news in the on going story of lost baggage from British Airways flights at Heathrow. The Evening Standard reports that BA have flown several 747 cargo planes to the US full of lost luggage in an effort to clear the backlog as well as using a fleet of trucks to move bags around Europe.
The bad news is that some lost baggage has already been auctioned off at an auctioneers in south London.

Terminal 5 Song
Everyone travelling to London must be familiar with the story of the chaotic opening to the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport. There’s a story in today’s Evening Standard about British Airways sending lost baggage to Italy to be sorted and then sent on around Europe to its owners, only for it to be returned to T5 because the customers had already finished their holidays.
The above clip was made by two Kiwis, a bridegroom and best man, whose bags had been lost by BA on the way to …

Baggage problems at Heathrow's Terminal 4
Not good news if your flying from Terminal 4 at London’s Heathrow Airport today. BAA which runs the airport says Terminal 4 had a major baggage system failure yesterday, 19 February, and British Airways which is the main airline using T4 says on its website that World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premier economy) and all transfer passengers should not bring luggage to be checked in as they will not be able to travel.
BAA are working to fix the problem which apparently is software related but whether they get it working by tomorrow is anyone’s guess. Below is more of the statement from British Airways on the options for effected passengers.

British airport security
The Telegraph has a story today about BAA (British Airports Authority) promising that the time taken by 95% of passengers to get through security checks at Britain’s main airports will be down to five minutes by next year, and only 1% will take more than 15 minutes. BAA says more money, staff and better technology will make its promises reality along with the government’s decision to allow passengers to resume taking more than one piece of hand luggage on board again from next year.
