It's good to be the King

ancestrytree.thumbnail.jpgCould you have claim to be the real King or Queen of England? English Heritage thinks somebody might and is asking any potential claimants to send in the genealogy they have so that English Heritage’s panel of genealogists and historians can assess the claim.

The search is all tied in with the opening of a new visitor centre at Battle Abbey, built by William The Conqueror in 1070 after he invaded England and defeated King Harold in 1066.

London's top attractions - Big Ben and Houses of Parliament

hop.thumbnail.jpgThe Houses of Parliament or Palace of Westminster has been at its current site in some form since 1042. Bits have been added and changed through the centuries due to fire and bombing, Westminster Hall is the only part of the original Palace still intact.

Guide to England's music history

abbey.thumbnail.jpgThere’s a new website started that helps music fans track down locations of historical interest in the story of rock and pop over the last forty or so years in England. Called England Rocks the site has a menu and interactice map that lets you find the sites of famous venues, homes, recording studios, album cover settings, video shoots and even a few places where rock stars met untimely deaths.

The menu is designed like the ones in a jukebox machine, click on the left or right blue bar and the list will flip over or back. Among the London sites listed are venues such as the 100 Club and Brixton Academy, the Hope and Anchor pub in Islington where U2, The Stranglers and Joy Division played their first London gigs
