English folk are mad about sports and you’ll find plenty of interesting stories from the field of play here.

Tour of Britain

tob.JPGThe Tour de France was a huge success this July when it brought out around 2 million people onto the streets of London to watch its Prologue and 1st Stage, so it’ll be interesting to see the numbers who turn out for the Prologue stage of the 2007 Tour of Britain which takes place at Crystal Palace on Sunday 9 September.

Crystal Palace certainly doesn’t have the glamour of riding around central London and the Tour of Britain is definitely a small event compared to the French equivalent,

According to the Assembly around 250,000 people go to sports stadiums in London on an average autumn weekend but there’s no one in charge of actually making sure that adequate transport is available to move them around.

As part of this review they want to hear the fans stories of travelling to football, rugby, cricket and tennis matches in the capital and what could be done to improve them.

Turbo Tennis at the O2

ten.jpgTaking a leaf out of cricket’s book and their crash-bang Twenty20 form of the game, this Saturday 15 September the O2 Arena in Greenwich stages the Betfair Turbo Tennis tournament, a souped up version of the game you see at Wimbledon.

This one day event with a $100,000 first prize involves 30 minute matches with strict time limits between points, games and matches, and forfeits for delaying play. There are no net cords and a game goes to sudden death if it reaches deuce. Like the Twenty20 cricket they’ll be loud music played
