London weekend football
It’s another important football weekend with this week’s big game taking place at the Emirates Stadium where Premiership leaders Arsenal take on the oligarch’s plaything aka Chelsea on Sunday. Arsenal are over due a victory against Abramovich’s boys but injuries made the possibility look unlikely. Now it seems key players Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie might be fit to play which will definitely help the Gunners chances.
As you would expect that game’s sold out but here are some others in London this weekend that you might get tickets for.

The reason why Jose Mourinho left Chelsea
The story dominating the news in the UK today is Jose Mourinho getting fired/resigning/leaving by mutual consent, take your pick, from his position as Chelsea manager. What ever theory you believe Chelsea have lost the most successful manager in their history and one of the biggest personalities in English football is out of a job.

Arsenal v Sparta Prague Tickets
Tickets for the second leg of Arsenal’s Champions League Qualifying round match against Sparta Prague have gone on General Sale. The game’s next Wednesday night 29 August with the kickoff at 8.05pm.
This is a good chance to see Arsenal play a competitive game at the Emirates Stadium, its very unlikely that any other Champions League or Premiership games this season will have tickets on General Sale as Arsenal have a system of Gold, Platinum, Silver and Red memberships who get priority on available tickets before non-members can buy.

Brazil to play Sweden at the Emirates
Brazil are returning to London to play Sweden in a friendly football international on Wednesday 26th March 2008 with the game taking place at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. This will be the third year in a row that the Brazilian national team have played at the Emirates, they beat Argentina 3-0 there in September 2006 and lost 2-0 to Portugal in February 2007.
I went to both matches which were sellouts

Champions League fixtures
The draw for the group stages of the Champions League was made today with two London clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea, both involved. Arsenal got a pretty comfortable group with Sevilla or AEK Athens, Steaua Bucharest and Slavia Prague while Chelsea’s shouldn’t be overly difficult with them playing Valencia, Schalke 04 and Rosenborg.
In case you want to catch one of these games here are the matches that will be played in London.

19 September - Arsenal v Sevilla/AEK Athens

Busy sporting weekend in London
The new football season starts this weekend and the sports press can concentrate on something other than whether Beckham’s problem with his big toe/ankle/new haircut will stop him walking down another red carpet. Football fans will be filled with hope for a good season, at least until Monday, but the return of the Premiership and football is not the only big sporting contest in London this weekend.
The Third Test in cricket between England and India began today at the Oval

Premiership fixtures update
Now that SkySports and Setanta have picked the first round of Premiership games they want to televise live this season the schedule has been rearranged and shouldn’t be effected by Cup games until the New Year, although after November the tv companies will probably move some more Premiership games to times that suit them. If you’re thinking of trying to catch a game this season here are the London clubs home Premiership fixtures as they now stand.
