2012 to be the greenest games

2012.jpg2012 days to go to 27 July 2012 and the start of the London Olympics and Tony Blair and the organisers have been trumpeting what a green games London’s will be, better than any previous we’re told. I’m always sceptical when someone like Blair starts waving the flag for something, there’s always a hidden agenda and price to pay.

There’s a thing on the 2012 website called One Planet Olympics, basically saying if the whole world used as many resources as a country like the UK, we’d need three planets to supply them and how the Olympic movements all about sustainable development and keeping the use of those resources down to a minimum. This seems strange when every time the Olympic bidding process starts up its about who can go one better than the last time and a build a bigger and shinier set of venues and the IOC keeps adding more sports because they want the roadshow to keep increasing in size.

There’s not much to see of the Olympic site so far, they’re still clearing the area but the budget has already risen by close to a billion pounds. I think most people doubt very much whether they can keep to the promised spending on the London games and touting the green benefits is one way trying to limit the political damage.
