oscar.jpgThe Oscar nominations were announced today and a few British actors got the nod, they all seem to be fairly elderly as well apart from Kate Winslet. Judi Dench(73) got nominated for Notes on a Scandal, Peter O’Toole(75) is up for Venus and Helen Mirren(62) for playing the current Queen in the movie The Queen. I haven’t seen those films but Daniel Craig should have got nominated for Casino Royale, top man.

One film that should be really interesting, especially for people in the UK, is The Last King of Scotland starring Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin ruler of Uganda in the 1970s. Amin had a reputation in Britain on the scale of Saddam Hussein while he was in power and famously expelled the Indian population of Uganda, most to the UK. Amin also gave himself the title His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa and Uganda, so the Last King of Scotland is a minor add on.

The current top ten films in London are
1.Babel
2.Rocky Balboa
3.The Last King of Scotland
4.The Pursuit of Happyness
5.Black Book
6. Smokin’ Aces
7.Casino Royale
8.Apocalypto
9.Night At The Museum
10.Pan’s Labyrinth
