Sean arrived back from Dublin this afternoon. Within five minutes we were out to the park for a run despite the inclement weather, this is set us up for an early dinner of steak, pork chops, sausages, bacon and a little salad at a Italian place before I dropped Sean off at his hotel in Kings Cross.
Tomorrow he’s staying with Delara and Dan W before flying to the US on friday, so he can get a final dose of Rooneymania when England play Portugal tomorrow night.
To anyone not living in the UK, Wayne Rooney is the eighteen year old kid playing for England in the Euro2004 football championships whose been the star of the team so far.
When ever England gets a potential star like this the press go into hype warp drive and you read and hear the name Rooney about every fiften seconds.
The kid definitely has talent but his looks and background probably mean he won’t replace Beckham as an icon.
Reading the papers today Rooney’s marketing men have some work to do. Asked what he could promote, an advertising guy said Rooney would be perfect for the Potato Marketing Board, a female journalist said he was as attractive as a clenched fist and the fans are singing ‘he’s fat, he’s Scouse, he’ll probably rob your house, Roo-ney, Roo-ney’.
On the up side a radio trailer for tomorrow’s game calls him the closest thing on earth to the Angel Gabriel, you just know the boy’s going to score tomorrow night.

Hey, just ran into your blog on Google. Sorry about England losing today! Altho I’m Venezuelan, that’s my team man! I was so dissapointed. Maybe if Rooney would’ve stayed for the game… bah, no point in thinking about it now. And Becks missing that first penalty WTF?!
Anyways. Cool blog ![]()

From the Montreal Gazette.
“From this side of the pond, one can’t help noticing No. 9 for England in the Euro 2004 tourney and wondering: Has England found its own Wayne Gretzky?”
