Do we want it?

London’s Olympic 2012 bid commitee came up with their figures for staging the games this week, £3.8billion.

A lot of money, but probably miles under budget if previous Olympic Games are anything to go by.
Athens had budgeted for $3.5billion but eventually racked up $11billion+ according to reports this week.

Despite the across the board euphoria about trying to get the Olympics I can’t believe no one’s saying wait a minute, who pays the tab, what happens to all these stadia after the event, is this the only way that run down parts of London will ever be regenerated.

Every time I see one of these bid leaders or the mayor going on about 2012 I can’t get away from thinking all they’re interested in is promoting themselves.
