Forbes magazine have released their latest list of the world’s billionaires and how much they are worth. Forbes lists 946 billionaires worldwide (I told them to leave me off this year, things have been a little lean) and there are 39 resident in the UK of whom 29 are actually British citizens.
The wealthiest man living in Britain is also number five on the worldwide list, Indian steel magnate Laksmi Mittal, worth $32billion. I think he paid something like £90million for a house in central London a couple of years back. The UK’s number two richest is the happy go lucky Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, the 16th richest man in the world with $18.7billion of Russian oil money in his back pocket. Thousands of football fans wish he was back in the USSR for good.
The Duke of Westminster who owns most of central London is the wealthiest British person, with $11billion to play real monopoly with. Other British people doing ok for themselves are Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone $3.6billion, Richard Branson $3.8billion and JK Rowling is making do with $1billion until the next round of Harry Potter books and movies come out.
Worldwide, Bill Gates is still the daddy with $56billion with Warren Buffet a close second with $52billion. Other interesting ones include Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google with $16.6billion each, Donald Trump ‘only’ $2.9billion and Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer with a mere $2billion, that’s why they’re keeping Ryan Giggs going into his 17th season.
