Last orders at the bar

Seems like the subject of binge drinking has taken over the media in the last couple of days, with people calling for anything from an increase in the drinking age to a heavier tax on booze.

To me the situation is that the 16-30 crowd has more money to spend than ever, there are more bars and clubs than at any time, yet we still have the crazy closing time law for pubs where before midnight people are turned out onto the streets on mass, after racing to get as many drinks down their necks before the barman calls time.

Get rid of closing time and people can then have a drink at a leisurely pace and not have to play this game against the clock.

Crazy laws here too. If I did some research, I’d probably laugh to death or die from depression.
