As of Monday lunchtime somebody in Britain is still sitting on a EuroMillions lottery ticket worth £35.4million following Friday nights draw. The UK has a number of different national lottery games that have draws on Wednesday and Saturday nights, the EuroMillions draw runs jointly in the UK, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, France, Luxembourg, Spain and Switzerland and takes place once a week on Friday nights.
The increased number of players means the jackpots are bigger but so are the odds of winning. The regular main UK-only draw requires picking 6 numbers from 49 and costs £1 per line, the EuroMillions players have to pick 5 numbers from 1-50, and 2 from 1-9 and each line costs £1.50.
Jackpot winners have six months to claim their prize, Friday’s winner must be either blissfully unaware or super cool. The organisers say they won’t confirm where in Britain the ticket was bought for 25 days. When he or she does come forward they’ll get their £35.4m($71.3m) in one lump sum, tax free. Not a bad way to start the week.
