Yesterday the City of London, the financial centre of London also known as the Square Mile, switched on Europe’s most advanced outdoor WiFi zone. The network has been set up in partnership with WiFi operating company The Cloud and features 127 nodes on lampposts and street signs throughout the Square Mile and should allow any of the 350,000 people that come into the area every day uninterrupted access to the network using laptops, PDAs, media players and smart phones.
Unfortunately its only going to be free for the first month, after that its not clear what the charges will be but The Cloud offers 24 hour day packages for £9.99 on its website. It’ll be interesting to see how much take up there is.
