London Pass

lp.jpgLondon is a city with a wealth of things for the visitor to see and do, but unfortunately London isn’t a cheap date and the cost of a busy sightseeing schedule can quickly mount up. One way to cut down on the expense of enjoying what the city has to offer is by buying a London Pass, a smart card that allows free entry to 56 major London attractions at a discount price.

You can get a London Pass for 1, 2, 3 or 6 days and it becomes activated the first time you use it at one of the places in the scheme. The London Pass comes with a free guidebook and as well as letting you go straight to the front of any queues also offers discounts at a variety of shops and restaurants.

A London Pass combined with a Travelcard can also be bought giving use of all buses, Tubes and trains in travel zones 1-6, but this must be purchased before you arrive in the UK. A standard London Pass also includes a Red River Rover ticket allowing you to jump on and off boats crusing up and down the River Thames. Currently a one-day London Pass costs £32.40, a two-day pass £41.40, a three-day pass £51.30 and a six-day pass £71.10.

The savings mount up with the more places that you visit on your trip and major attractions linked to the London Pass currently include the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Globe Theatre, the Museum in Docklands, London Zoo and Kew Gardens.

You can purchase a London Pass online before you travel, at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton airports, or at most major railway and Underground stations. Buying a pass is a good idea if you know what you what to see and when. You’ll save money if you have your schedule roughly worked out and can plan to see a number of attractions that are in the same part of town to make the most of your time.
