51st London Film Festival

film.jpgThe 51st London Film Festival starts next Wednesday running from 17 October-1 November and featuring hundreds of films playing at 14 cinemas in the central London area including the BFI Southbank, the ICA, Odeon’s Leicester Square and West End, the Ritzy, Rio and Cine Lumiere.

The festival has categories such as Gala and Special screenings with films like The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford starring Brad Pitt, Eastern Promises, David Cronenberg’s gangster film about the Russian mafia in London which stars Viggo Mortensen, Into The Wild, Sean Penn’s film based on the book by Jon Krakauer, and this year’s winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days.

Other categories are New British Cinema, French Revolutions with the best of new French cinema, Cinema Europa, World Cinema showing the best new films from around the world, Experimenta, Treasures from the Archive featuring restored and re-discovered classics, and Short Cuts & Animation.

They’ll also be Screen Talks and Masterclasses with the likes of Steve Buscemi and Wes Anderson, a series of panel discussions and a giant outdoor screen in Trafalgar Square showing the Hitchcock thriller Blackmail and the film Capital Tales about 100 years of London, both are free.

Ticket prices vary and can be bought online at the London Film Festival website.
