Bank Holiday entertainment on Clapham Common


ca.jpgThere’s a three day weekend in the UK this week with a public holiday on 28 May. With good weather predicted, its sunny at the moment and meant to be around 79F by Thursday, plenty of people will out out looking for things to do. One of the big events in London over the weekend will be A Country Affair taking place on Clapham Common in South London from 26-28 May.

This three day show for all the family is designed around the idea of a village and features entertainment, performances, exhibitions and activities divided into eight different areas on the site.
The Village Green has traditional and modern entertainment such as Maypole dancing, Morris dancing, Bollywood and Salsa dancing, fashion shows, Lumberjack contests, demonstrations by rural craftsmen and martial arts displays.
The Market Place is the Country Affair’s own farmers’ market with brightly decorated stalls with fresh food from farms and small producers from throughout the South East of England.
The Playground has rides and activities for all ages, traditional fairground rides, a mini circus, professional musicians and roving entertainers.
The Animal Arena is the place to go to see sheep shearing, dancing ewes, ferret races, gun-dog shows, farm and rare breed animals.
The Shops feature high quality marquees packed with arts & crafts, horticulture, gifts, fashion. lifestyle, food & wines.
The Sport allows you to try your hand at archery, curling, climbing, as well as show your football skills, join in Spacehopper Derbies, a coconut shy and a set of stocks.
The Stage has six hours of performances by professional bands and singers each day.
The Inn, the most important place of the weekend, has great wines, beers, Pimms and champagne. Plenty of fluids are essential on a hot day.

Tickets for A Country Affair are £6 adults, £3 under 15s and its open from 10am-6.30pm each day. Clapham Common is to the west of Brixton and south of Battersea, the nearest Tubes are Clapham Common and Clapham South on the Northern Line.
