Buckingham Palace is the Queen’s official London residence, located at the end of The Mall on the southern side of Green Park. Since 1993 it has opened up its State Rooms, used by the Royal Family to entertain guests on ceremonial, official and State occasions, to the public for August and September each year while the Queen is away in Scotland.
There are 19 State Rooms that are open to view, each lavishly with furnished with some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection such as paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer, Poussin, Canaletto and Claude, sculpture by Canova and Chantrey, Sèvres porcelain and some of the finest English and French furniture in the world. As part of this year’s opening there’s a special exhibition in the Ball Supper Room celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
The State Room opening runs until 28 September 2007 and they’re open daily from 9.45am-6pm although the last admission each day is 3.45pm, a tour takes about 2.5 hours. Admission is by timed ticket with entry every 15 minutes throughout the day, and tickets are valid only on the date and at the entrance time specified on the ticket.
Tickets cost £15 adults, under 17s £8.50 and under 5s are free. Alternatively tickets for the State Rooms, Royal Mews and Queens Gallery at Buckingham Palace cost £27 adults.
