Charlie Chaplin Complete Mutuals 1916-17

Cadogan Hall near Sloane Square in west London is staging a special screening of all 12 of the newly restored Charlie Chaplin Mutual films, made during Chaplin’s 12 month period with the Mutual Film Corporation between 1916-17. Charlie Chaplin Complete Mutuals 1916-17 runs from 15-18 August starting at 7.30pm each night and the films will be shown with scores composed and conducted by Carl Davis and performed live by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Charlie Chaplin became the highest paid entertainer in the world in 1916 when he signed a contract with Mutual Films for a salary of $670,000 and they also built him his own studio and allowed him total creative freedom to make the films he wanted. Among the classics he produced in that period were The Immigrant, The Pawn Shop and The Adventurer.

The programme at Cadogan Hall features three films each evening and Charlie Chaplin aficionados journalist Paul Ross, actor Richard Briers and Chaplin biographer David Robinson will introduce each evening while Chaplin’s son Michael Chaplin will address the audience on the final night.
