Christmas at St Pancras

London’s St Pancras station, newly reopened after an £800million restoration as the new home of the Eurostar, is doing more to attract visitors than just serving rail passengers, this month they have a whole series of Christmas related activities for people to come an enjoy during their Christmas at St Pancras season.

The station concourse will be transformed into a traditional Christmas scene and events include the world’s largest advent calendar at over 1100 sq.m where each day a celebrity will open one of the doors, a Christmas Fair, Father Christmas in his grotto, special Father Christmas Breakfasts and a postbox for kids to send their request to Lapland.

There are carol singing evenings with choirs from across the capital taking part including the English Baroque Choir and the London Transport Choir, special screenings of Christmas movies such as Scrooged, Miracle on 34th Street, Polar Express and White Christmas, guided walks of St Pancras and the surrounding area, a series of Saturday workshops where you can learn how to make Victorian Christmas decorations among other things, a Victorian Gaming Night, Punch and Judy and Children’s Victorian Theatre, a programme of talks and readings through December with ‘Charles Dickens’ reading from A Christmas Carol on 23 December, a singles Dance Card Dating Night and a Victorian New Year’s Eve Masked Ball.

St Pancras has had a lot of publicity since it opened and even if you’re not catching a train this Christmas is a good excuse to go and see what all the money was spent on. You could even try the special drink the station’s Searcy’s Champagne Bar, the longest champagne bar in Europe, have made for the festive season. The St Pancras Champagne Steamer is a mixture of Champagne, star anis, cinnamon and clove infused vodka and costs £9.50.

St Pancras station is on the Euston Road right next to Kings Cross station. Map

Hi Chris, did you catch this great RT fare JFK to London for $199? Is it too good to be true? I stumbled upon this one at the Air France website and posted it on Parislogue. Sounds like a really good reason to combine London and Paris on the same trip.
