If you’re in the Tower Bridge/Butler’s Wharf area of central London this coming weekend 3-4 February, take the chance to go inside the City Hall building on the South Bank just west of Tower Bridge. They’re having an open weekend where parts of the building that are normally closed to the public will be open both days from 10am-5pm.
This includes the open top floor that is known as London’s Living Room, which with its walk around outside balconies offers great views and photo oppurtunities over that eastern part of the River Thames and city, including probably the best vantage point to get a picture of Tower Bridge as well as the Tower of London on the opposite side of the river.
Some of these areas are only open to the public on a number of set weekends throughout the year and it is worth going in to take a look at the building and the views from it. On the lower ground floor is the London PhotoMat, a 16m x 10m aerial view of London made up of 200,000 individual photos taken from 5,500ft that were printed onto floor tiles and put together. The last entry is at 4.30pm and they’ll probably be a quick security check.
