Surreal Things:Surrealism and design An exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum looking at the development of Surrealism from the 1920s onwards and the impact its had on architecture, design and the decorative arts. Its on from 29 March-22 July and all though most of the V&A is free, this exhibition has an admission price of £9. The V&A is open from 10am-5.45pm daily (10pm Fri).
Free at Last From 31 March-9 April as part of the abolition of slavery commemoration the replica slave ship, The Zong, is going to be moored up at Tower Pier for ten days and open to the public for tours. Tickets will cost £12 and the tour will start at All Hallows by the Tower church, just north of the Thames where there’s a related exhibition to see.
The Vitality Show The largest health and beauty show in the UK featuring stands and exhibits from 400 health, beauty, wellbeing and fitness companies. The show is on from 29 March-1 April at Olympia in London and describes itself as the ‘ultimate girl’s day out’ with all the fashion, beauty, diet and shopping oppurtunities there. Tickets are £13 advance, £16 on the door and its open from 1pm-9pm 29 March, 10am-6pm 30 March-1 April.
Journey Through Japan The Horniman Museum in south London has this photographic exhibition starting on 31 March and featuring photos of Japan taken in the early 20th century, admission is free. The Horniman is open daily from 10.30am-5.30pm and is located at Forset Hill about 4.5 miles southeast of London Bridge, you can get there by taking the train from London Bridge station to Forest Hill.
Forgotten, but not Gone A free photography exhibition at the gallery@oxo, at the bottom of the Oxo Tower building not far from Blackfriars Bridge, Forgotten, but not Gone features work by photojournalist Pete Pattisson looking at modern day slavery in places like India, Haiti, Ghana, Burma and Britain. Its on from now until 15 April and the gallery@oxo is open from 11am-6pm daily.
Picasso: Histoire Naturelle On show at the Museum of Childhood in East London, this is a series natural history prints created by Picasso in 1936 to illustrate a group of books from the 17th century called Histoire Naturelle. There are 31 in all that Picasso finished in under a month. The museum is open daily from 10am-5.45pm and admission is free, Bethnal Green is the nearest Tube station.
