As part of the 25th anniversary of the war between Britain and Argentina over the Falkand Islands, HMS Belfast the World War 2 cruiser that’s now a floating museum on the banks of the Thames is holding a photographic exhibition called Eye Witness Falklands.
It features photos selected by 12 participants in the war, from senior commanders to ordinary soldiers on the ground, who have chosen images that define what the war was for them. Among those selecting the pictures are Major General Julian Thompson who commanded the first Royal Marines to land on the Falklands and Admiral Alan West whose ship HMS Ardent was destroyed by Argentine planes.
Eye Witness Falklands is on from 8 June 2007-6 January 2008 and entrance is included in the standard admission ticket to the ship which cost £9.95, free under 16s. HMS Belfast is moored along Queen’s Walk between London and Tower bridges and is open daily from 10am-6pm.
