throwofdice.jpgNext Thursday 30 August at 9pm the British Film Institute(BFI) is having a special outdoor screening in Trafalgar Square of the classic Indian silent film A Throw of Dice, made in 1929 by German director Franz Osten.

The film has been in the BFI’s archives since 1945 and has rarely been seen. This is a new digitally restored version and is accompanied by a new score from British Indian composer Nitin Sawhney who’ll perform it live along with the London Symphony Orchestra.

A Throw of Dice is a love story involving a woman and two competing kings. Osten filmed it on location in Rajasthan using thousands of extras and exotic animals. Franz Osten made 18 other films in India between 1926-1939. The Trafalgar Square screening is free to attend, below is a clip from the film.
