The Tour de France has moved back to familiar territory across the channel but there’s still a reminder of professional cycling in London with a photo exhibition called Flandrien:Hard Men and Heroes, on at the Host Gallery until 31 July.
Its the work of Belgian photographer Stephan Vanfleteren and looks at the Flemish cyclists from the Dutch speaking part of Belgium, riders who come from a cycling mad part of the world and who race through some of the toughest conditions, wind, freezing rain and sections of cobbled roads. Vanfleteren has spent over ten years photographing cyclists in Belgium and his black and white pictures and portraits feature current stars such as Tom Boonen as well as Belgian legends such as Eddy Merckx, Johan Musseeuw and Rik Van Looy.
Host Gallery is on Honduras Street off of Old Street and is open 10am-6pm Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm Sat. The nearest Tubes are Old Street or Barbican. Map
