This Saturday is the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester United at the new Wembley Stadium and London’s Unicorn Children’s Theatre is starting a short run of a play called Billy the Kid to tie in with the final.
Its nothing to do with gunfighters in the Old West, its based on the book by Michael Morpurgo about a young boy whose dream is to play for Chelsea, which he does but his career is interrupted by the Second World War and he then goes down hill after being injured by a mine and turns to alcohol. Down and out, he’s eventually befriended by a family whose son he helps become a footballer for Chelsea.
Its a play suitable for adults and children and runs from 18 May-10 June, with tickets at £14.50 for adults, £9.50 for children. The Unicorn is located on Tooley Street, just behind London’s City Hall with the nearest Tube being London Bridge.
They’re having a Cup Final special where you can see the play, watch the game on a big screen and win prizes, all tickets will be £10.
I’m thinking of writing a sequel called Roman, The Emperor about a young boy from the Ural Mountains who dreams of owning Chelsea and while running a market stall in Moscow comes up with a cunning plan to steal his country’s oil wealth. His plan works out and he hightails it to London where he becomes a football agent’s wet dream. On second thoughts its a little far fetched.
