Get Seduced at the Barbican

barbican1.jpgThe Barbican Centre in the City of London will be steaming things up this autumn with their new over 18s only exhibition called Seduced: Art and Sex from Antiquity to Now. On from 12 October-27 January 2008 Seduced looks at the he representation of sex in art over the last 2000 years using everything from Roman sculptures, Indian manuscripts, Japanese prints, Chinese watercolours, Renaissance and Baroque paintings to 19th century photography and modern and contemporary art.

Among the artists whose work is featured are Picasso, Rembrandt, Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon and Robert Mapplethorpe. Running alongside the main exhibition from 19-25 October is the short film season Seduced—Sex and Censorship in the Cinema which includes films previously banned by the British Board of Film Censors. The Barbican will also be opening late on Thursdays during the exhibition for a series of After Hours events such as artist commissions, live music, erotic readings and talks.

Tickets for Seduced cost £8 and you are warned it contains work of a sexually explicit nature. The Barbican is open 9am-11pm Mon-Sat, 12 noon-11pm Sun and is located on Silk Street in the City of London with Barbican or Moorgate the nearest Tube Stations. Map
