Horseman’s Sunday

horse.jpgSt John’s Church Hyde Park carries on a 40 year tradition this Sunday 23 September when they hold their annual Horseman’s Sunday. It takes place on the penultimate Sunday in September and the vicar of St John’s will mount up and lead a procession of over 100 horses and riders to the church for a blessing to celebrate riding in central London.

The day began as a protest at the proposed closure of stables on the north side of Hyde Park and has grown into a more carnival type event where after the church blessing there’s a ride past by all the horses along with live music, children’s activities and carriage rides. The church’s main service starts at 10am and the horses begin arriving around noon.

St John’s is a couple of hundred metres north of Hyde Park on Hyde Park Crescent. The nearest Underground stations are Marble Arch and Paddington. Map
