The summer recess of Britain’s Parliament is the two month period of the year when overseas visitors get the chance to join UK residents in having a tour of the Houses of Parliament. This year’s Summer Opening runs from 31 July-29 September with tours taking place Monday to Saturday.
Tickets cost £12 adults, £8 students and over 65s, £5 kids 5-15 and under 5s are free, family tickets cost £30. You can queue and buy tickets on the day from the Ticket Office next to the Jewel Tower in Old Palace Yard, opposite the Houses of Parliament but you’re advised to pre-book on 0870 906 3773 to be sure of getting in when you want.
Tours take about 75 minutes and during August run Mon, Tues, Fri and Sat 9.15am-4.30pm and Wed, Thurs 1.15pm-4.30pm. September tours are Mon, Fri and Sat 9.15am-4.30pm, Tues, Wed and Thurs 1.15pm-4.30pm. Tours in French, Spanish, Italian and German are available at set times. Because of the terrorist threat you won’t be allowed in with bags bigger than you’re allowed in an aircraft cabin. Westminster is the nearest Tube station. Map
