Important films to see in London

ts1.jpgThis February the British Film Institute(BFI) is holding a months long season of films under the title Out of the Shadows: 50 Cinematic Masterpieces. If you like art house and foreign films or just something a bit different to the regular multiplex offering then the programme here might interest you.

They’re describing the choices as not the greatest films of all time but as some of the most influential and artistically important. The films come from all over the world including the US, Japan, Italy and France and Fritz Lang, Roberto Rossellini, Jean-Luc Godard, Alfred Hitchcock and Howard Hawks are a few of the directors. The only film I recognise out of the lineup is Hitchcock’s Psycho but I’m sure there’s some good stuff to watch.

The films are being shown at the National Film Theatre on the South Bank, in the area at the southern side of Waterloo Bridge. On either side of the NFT are the National Theatre and Hayward Gallery. Tickets for the NFT are £8.60 and these programme of films start showing at around 6.30pm during the week and around 3.30pm on weekends.
