The BFI IMAX cinema in Waterloo is showing the movie Roving Mars, produced by Disney and Lockheed Martin, from 4-24 May 2007. The film follows the design, construction and launching of two robot explorers named Spirit and Oppurtunity by America’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory on a mission to Mars.
They where launched in June and July 2003 and landed on Mars in January 2004. The movie is produced by Academy Award winner Frank Marshall and has a score by composer Phillip Glass. It features real life footage, pictures from the rovers and computer generated footage to give the best example yet seen of what life on Mars is like. So far Oppurtunity has spent back over 58,000 images and Spirit over 70,000 and helped explain how water used to flow on Mars.
Tickets for Roving Mars are £8.50 and the BFI Imax is located on the big roundabout on Waterloo Road very close to Waterloo station.
