Lint Diana is now on display at the new Ripley’s Museum

Our English Rose has been gone for more than a decade now, so it’s surprising that it’s taken so long for this fitting tribute. The Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum at 1 Piccadilly Circus has just opened in London, and the most attention-getting piece of their 500-item collection of oddities is this portrait of Lady Di made completely out of laundry lint. Artist Slater Barron created this masterpiece, based on an official court portrait of Princess Diana.

For those who have yet to have the privilege of visiting one of the chain of Ripley’s Believe it or Not museums, the new London location is the 22nd in the world, with a bit over half of them located in the United States and the rest spread all over the world. Each “museum” displays original oddities, rather than just replicas, so each one is different.

Having been to a couple of them over the years I admit they can be a few laughs, but the impression you have as you are leaving is often, why did I just pay to go into that place? It’s definitely more in the Madam Tussaud’s vein rather than like, say, the British Museum.

The more I look in the mirror, the more I believe Darwin.
