The BBC has an excellent tv series called Who Do You Think You Are? which takes a celebrity or well known personality and helps them to trace their ancestors and family history, sometimes with surprising results.
Now they’re putting on Who Do You Think You Are? Live at London’s Olympia this coming weekend in conjunction with the Society of Genealogists Family History Show and Ancestry.co.uk. The show will provide advice on research and building your family tree, how to organise it, where to look for information and the best software to use. They’ll be talks, lectures and guest speakers including tv historians such as David Starkey, Neil Oliver and Dan Snow, as well as Colin Jackson, Ian Hislop and David Baddiel, who all traced their family histories on the show, talking about the experience.
They’ll be an Ask The Experts section where you can book a one on one talk with one of 25 leading genealogy experts, an Encounters Table area where you’re invited to tell your experiences of trying to track down your family history, what worked, what didn’t and they’ll also be over 100 exhibitors offering advice and services in the show.
Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE is on from 10am-6pm 5-6 May, 10am-4pm 7 May, tickets are £18. Kensington Olympia on the District line is the nearest Tube station.
