The Mexican beer Dos Equis is sponsoring a series of exhibitions on emerging Mexican art and artists, the second of which is called Betrayal and is on show in the Crypt of St Andrew’s Church in Holborn. The exhibition features the work of eight artists working in Mexico today and will feature photography, video and drawings.
St Andrew Holborn is a working church and records show there’s been a church on the site since at least AD 951. In 2002 the Crypt was excavated and Roman remains were found indicating the site of the church had been in use for a lot longer. In 2003 3,000 bodies were exhumed from the Crypt and moved to the City of London Cemetery in Ilford. Since then the Crypt has been used as a venue for hire, and is an atmospheric place to hold an exhibition or event.
The Dos Equis Series opens on 22 February and runs to early March. The Crypt is open from 10am-5pm Mon-Fri (Wed 8pm) and admission to this exhibition is free, hopefully Dos Equis beer will be available. St Andrew Holborn is on St Andrew Street near Holborn Circus, the nearest Tubes are Chancery Lane and Farringdon.
