Late summer seems to be the time when the older rockers come out to play in London. Prince (49) is working his way through playing his 21 shows at the O2 Arena in London, the same venue where The Rolling Stones will play three gigs starting next Tuesday 21 August.
Mick Jagger (64), Keith Richards (63), Ronnie Wood (60) and Charlie Watts (66) keep coming up with these massive world tours every couple of years and the fans keep coming although you can still buy tickets for their O2 shows. When they’re priced from £70-£150 I’m not surprised. Mick and the boys are not as hardcore as they used to be and give themselves a break between shows nowadays so they play the O2 on 21, 23 and 26 August.
Also passing through London early next month to play two gigs at Twickenham rugby stadium are The Police, back together after a 20 year split. Sting (55), Stewart Copeland (55) and Andy Summers (65) play shows on the 8-9 September with tickets priced between £45-£90.
As a tie-in with The Police’s tour there’s a short photographic exhibition on at the Jill George Gallery in Soho called I’ll Be Watching You:Inside The Police 1980-1983, featuring photos taken by the band’s bassist Andy Summers during their glory days. Its on from 29 August-8 September and the Jill George Gallery is at 38 Lexington Street, Soho, London W1. Map
