The Royal Observatory at Greenwich has just finished a £15million redevelopment called the Time and Space Project, and its due to open to the public tomorrow, 25 May.
Its centrepiece is the 120 seat Peter Harrison Planetarium and that’s alongside the new interactive Weller Astronomy Galleries and an education centre. The planetarium gives an exhilarating virtual tour of the solar system and beyond, and is entered with a timed ticket for a variety of daily themed shows. Admission is £6 and times are weekdays 1-4pm on each hour, and weekends 11am-4pm on each hour.
The Weller Astronomy Galleries help explain the mysteries of the universe, how it was formed, how stars and planets are born, the Big Bang explained and the interactive exhibits will let you try hands on the different techniques used to explore the Universe and question leading experts. The galleries are open from 10am-5pm daily.
The whole of the Royal Observatory is worth a visit, even if you just get your picture taken on the Greenwich Meridian (0 degrees) or enjoy the stunning views across Greenwich and Canary Wharf. Take the DLR to Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich and its a short walk to Greenwich Park, the Observatory is on top of the hill.
