The 21st edition of London’s New Years Day Parade takes place on Monday. Organisers are hoping half a million people will forget their hangovers and snooze button and make it into central London to watch the 2.2 mile parade.
The event kicksoff at 12 noon and should last around three hours. The 10,000 performers taking part will make their way from the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square, along Pall Mall and up lower Regent Street to Piccadillly Circus, then head down Piccadilly to Green Park where the parade will finish.
The parade will include lots of different floats, giant balloons, a ton of cheerleaders and marching bands from the US and performers from 20 countries worldwide. Unfortunately the weather forcecast for the next few days is wet and windy in London, not great marching conditions.
New Years Day is a public holiday in the UK and the London Underground will be running a reduced Saturday service, Buses will have a Sunday service and the Docklands Light Railway will have a revised Saturday service.
