A lot of places will be holding special events in the run up to Christmas, one such happenning is Syon House's Enchanted Woodland which starts tonight.
Syon House has been for the last 400 years and still is today the home of the Dukes and Earl’s of Northumberland. It sits in the middle of the Duke of Northumberland Estate(Syon Park), 200 acres of parkland on the banks of the River Thames near Brentford in west London.
The house is known for its ornate rooms and old master paintings but is only open to the public from mid March to the end of October. The estate includes 40 acres of landscaped gardens and these are open to visitors all year round from 10.30am-5pm.
The gardens at Syon are best recognized for their collection of over 200 rare species of trees and the Enchanted Woodland event involves using over a thousand lights to illuminate the woodland and lake area at night. Various coloured lights will be used to create different scenes and settings.
Sounds like an interesting place for a night time walk, but you’ll have to be fairly quick because its only on from 24 November-3 December with tickets costing £4 adults, £1 kids.
Syon Park is off the A315, London Road in Brentford and there is free parking for cars. The nearest train stations are the mainline Syon Lane and Brentford, Boston Manor on the Piccadilly Line is the closest tube stop but that’s a little further away.
