The final qualifying round for Nike’s Midnight Madness basketball competition takes place at Crystal Palace this Friday night, 10 August. Midnight Madness is a contest to find the best players in the UK and send them to LA for a Nike tournament, the Crystal Palace night is the last regional qualifer and the Finals night takes place there a week later.
This Friday’s event runs from 8pm-6am and is free to enter whether you’re watching or playing, you can just turn up and play if you think you’re any good. Players will be rated on a points system, 3 points if the team you’re put on wins a game, and 1 point each for every basket, rebound, assist, blocked shot and steal a player makes. On Finals night 18 August the 10 top scoring players from the northern qualifers will play the 10 top scorers from the southern qualifers and the ten best will head straight to LA that day. You must be at least 16 and hold a valid passport.
This Friday’s action will be pretty much non-stop through the night and they’ll be DJ’s and MC’s to keep the atmosphere pumped up. The Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is on Ledrington Road, Bromley, London SE19 (Map). Trains run to Crystal Palace from Victoria and London Bridge.
