October Plenty

op.jpgThe annual autumn harverst celebration called October Plenty takes place this weekend, 27 October, starting at 12pm alongside the River Thames at Bankside, next to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

October Plenty is a mixture of old harvest customs, theatre, a procession and a market, and its free to attend. It all begins when a huge effigy of the Corn Queene surrounded by fruits of the harvest such as wheat, barley, other grains, apples and root vegetables, is led by the Berry Man and a company of actors with music and songs in a procession to Borough Market.

At the market they’ll be stalls selling seasonal food and drinks including a good selection of cider and beer, dancing and the company of actors will perform The Pregnant Farmer or The Cuckfold Basket. There’s also a glade of apple trees called The Story Orchard set up for children. The procession from The Globe Theatre to Borough Market is about a third of a mile. the nearest Tube station to Borough Market is London Bridge. Map
