Photographic Portrait Prize

ppp1.jpgLondon’s National Portrait Gallery opens an exhibition on 8 November featuring work by the entrants in this year’s Photographic Portrait Prize competition. This annual event is open to anyone over 18 and the 2007 edition received a record number of entries from around the world offering different styles and ways of approaching portrait photography.

The exhibition features sixty of the best and most original portraits from the 7,000 or so that were entered and the work of the four shortlisted finalists, who this year are South African Michelle Sank, Argentinian Julieta Sans, David Stewart from Lancaster in England and Israeli Jonathan Torgovnik. The winner gets a first prize of £12,000 as well as the exposure the prize brings.

The Photographic Portrait Prize 2007 will be running in the Porter Gallery of the National Portrait Gallery until 24 February 2008, there’s a £1 charge for entry. Map

I’ve always love the National Portrait Gallery, but I haven’t been in over a year . . . primarily out of a sense of ‘been there, done that.’ How refreshingly different this sounds! I’m adding it to my ‘to-do’ list!
