The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is staging a series of outdoor concerts in Crystal Palace Bowl this August called Pops in the Park. They’re on for the next three Sundays and feature music from a variety of composers.
12 August - Tchaikovsky Spectacular A selection of Tchaikovsky’s work including Capriccio Italien, Violin Concerto, Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, March Slave and the 1812 Overture firework finale.
19 August - Best of Bond A concert featuring all the great James Bond themes such as From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, Live & Let Die and The Spy Who Loved Me among others.
26 August - Last Night of the Summer Proms Popular orchestral classics from composers such as Verdi, Elgar, Sousa and Suppe.
The concerts start at 7.30pm with gates opening at 5.30pm. Tickets cost £19.50 for the grassed picnic area where you can bring your own chairs and picnics or £25 for the premium deckchaired area. Bookings can be made online, by phone on 0870 0400174 or the Park Box Office opens from 12pm on the day of the concerts. The Bowl and concert area is located in the northwest corner of Crystal Palace Park, just south of the junction of Westwood Hill and Crystal Palace Park Road (Map). The nearest stations are Crystal Palace, Penge West or Sydenham.
