In conjunction with their new exhibition Global Cities, Tate Modern have a series of films running under the title Projected Cities that look at different perspectives of urban living. Films this month include the following,
15 July - Shai Heredia Shai Heredia is director of Experimenta, the international festival for experimental cinema in India. For Projected Cities he’s chosen Ashim Ahluwalia’s film John & Jane, a documentary about the call centres in Mumbai that service America 24 hours a day, exploring personal identity and the impact of globalisation, and isTrip by Pramod Pati, an experimental film about Bombay. Starts at 6pm in the Starr Auditorium.
22 July - London Patrick Keiller’s 1994 film that’s part documentary, part fiction, the film critiques and re-imagines the capital, tracking the narrator’s journey through the City, along the Thames, to the suburbs of Wembley and the arcades of Brixton Market. 1pm in the Starr Auditorium.
22 July - Robinson in Space Patrick Keiller’s 1997 sequel to London is a journey through England’s post-industrial landscape. 3pm in the Starr Auditorium.
22 July - Patrick Keiller presents material his ambitious multi-screen video reconstruction of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus) in Mumbai. 6pm start.
12 August - Cosmopolis Tells the story of São Paulo’s rapid growth during the twentieth century and charts the emergence of its hybrid cultures. 3pm in the Starr Auditorium.
