Each summer the Royal Albert Hall in London holds a two month long season of classical music concerts called the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts, the finale of which, The Last Night of the Proms, attracts a flag waving, balloon throwing, boisterous crowd.
The Last Night is always televised live by the BBC and for the last decade or so they’ve also arranged a special concert in Hyde Park for people who don’t have tickets to the Albert Hall.
Proms in the Park this year involves the BBC Concert Orchestra along with soprano Lesley Garrett, tenor Juan Diego Florez and pop singers Tony Hadley and Will Young performing live in Hyde Park before the The Last Night of the Proms is shown live on a giant screen from the Albert Hall.
Its happening this Saturday 8 September and the gates open at 4pm with the first entertainment on stage starting at 5.30pm. Tickets cost £23 and can be bought online, by phone or in person at the Royal Albert Hall box office. You’re invited to bring a picnic but asked not to bring chairs, they’ll be two bars open at the event on the night.
