The next event in the Red Bull Air Race World Series takes place in London this weekend 28-29 July. A course has been set up on a stretch of the River Thames along by the O2 Arena (Millennium Dome) and the race can only be viewed properly from the designated and ticketed areas cordoned off along the Thames.
Qualifying will take place on Saturday when 14 pilots will be wittled down to 12 for a second qualifying round on Sunday, followed by knockout rounds featuring the 8 surviving competitors. British pilot Paul Bonhomme currently leads the World Series standings after five races. The weather forecast for the weekend is probably not ideal air racing, changeable with rain although winds are predicted to be about 7mph.
There are three main viewing areas for the race, at the O2 Arena, the Trinity Buoy Wharf Race Club(Map) on the north bank of the river and on the same side near the West Silvertown DLR(Map). Tickets are available from the Red Bull Air Race website with the cheapest standing tickets from £20.
