Flicking through the entertainment section of the paper today, one ad advertising tour dates in London and the UK suddenly caught my eye, it was for Steven Seagal and his band Thunderbox.
Steven Seagal, they can’t be serious. The tubby martial arts action film star, with the slow whispering drawl and one facial expression for every scene? Yes, that’s the one and the same and he and his blues band are playing 39 dates in the UK, starting with two sold out gigs in Glasgow on the 16 January and ending at the Shepard’s Bush Empire in London on 18 March.
It turns out he’s released two cds, Songs from the Crystal Cave and Mojo Priest released last year. You can hear samples on Amazon. There’s a clip below of him and his band performing at some blues festival last summer and they sound pretty good, although he doesn’t really stretch himself with the singing. If you want to catch Steven Seagal and Thunderbox in London they’re playing The Farifield Hall, Croydon on 21 January and the Sheperds Bush Empire on 18 March plus some dates in places close to London.
Shigemichi Take is the name he used doing his martial arts in Japan.
