Slow Food Market at the Southbank Centre

slow.jpgThe Southbank Centre between Waterloo and Westminster Bridges on the south side of the River Thames hosts London’s inaugural Slow Food Market this week from 20-23 December. The market is being set up outside the Royal Festival opening daily from 11am–8pm and is organized by Slow Food UK, part of the Slow Food Movement (as opposed to fast food) which believes that the food we eat should taste good, should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work.

This Slow Food Christmas market features 25 stalls selling the best fresh and preserved foods, as well as sustainably produced craft products. Companies with stalls include Game for Everything, Patchwork Pâtés, Sillfield Farm, Neal’s Yard Dairy, the Somerset Cider Brandy Company and Canteen, Good Food Guide’s London Restaurant of the Year 2007, which will have a stall selling spit roast pork served with apple sauce and hot spicy cider.

If you’re looking for a special food based Christmas present the speciality stalls at this market might have what you’re looking for even if you have to pay a little more than you’re used to. The nearest Tube is Waterloo. Map

I came across this event by accident and thought it wonderful. I would like to thank all those involved with the samples inside the Festival Hall. I had already linked Slow Food in general from the Food and Drinks Page of my website, but will now add this link. I do hope you repeat the Gathering next year.

I am an international author, and keen to help protect Brogdale. I hope it will remain in it’s present site, although I somehow doubt we’ll succeed.

Yours very sincerely
Jacyntha Crawley.
