Its 30 years since the first Star Wars film was released and an exhibition is opening at London’s County Hall this week featuring many of the original props and costumes. Star Wars:The Exhibition uses 30,000 sq.ft of County Hall, where huge landscape images will be projected to recreate the atmosphere of a particular world and different exhibition zones will walk you through the worlds of Tatooine, Naboo, Endor, Hoth, Coruscant, Kamino, Geonosis, Kashyyyk, Utapau and Mustafar.
The exhibition features nearly 250 specially selected items from the Lucasfilm Archives including a life-sized Naboo N-1 starfighter, costumes, props, drawings, vehicles and models. In the Visual Effects zone visitors can learn about the special effects techniques pioneered by George Lucas’s Industrial Light & Magic company and can try out a green screen that puts them into the actual Star Wars films. There are 12 exhibition rooms in all plus a Jedi School where you can try some Jedi training and of course an official Star Wars merchandise store.
County Hall is the building behind the London Eye on the south bank of the Thames, just over Westminster Bridge. Star Wars:The Exhibition runs from 5 May-1 September 2007, open daily from 10am-8pm. Tickets are £16.50 adults, £12.50 children.
